We’re a family of four on a misson to get healthy. In 2013, Jennifer was feeling really ill, Xaver was on track to get gastric bypass, and the kids were on a path to unhealthy lives. We needed to make a change.
For two years, Jennifer had been gluten free but it just didn’t seem to have enough of an impact. After returning from two trade shows in summer 2013, she was exhausted, ill, and nauseated all the time. Maybe a detox was in order. Jennifer searched online and found Dr. Oz’s 3 Day Detox. She and Xaver started the diet on a Friday. Over the weekend, they watched a few food documentaries on Netflix, which then suggested more documentaries along the same topic. They recognized a common thread: all of the processed food we’re eating is bad for us and the experts all recommend a paleo type of diet. It all started August 21, 2013.
By the end of 2013, Xaver and Jennifer had each lost over 30 pounds. The kids’ allergy symptoms started clearing up. Jennifer, who was taking as much prescription medication as someone who was 70 years old, was able to stop taking all medications, her chronic health problems of gout and allergies being diminished by this healthier way of eating. We stop having chronic sinus and ear infections and stopped having to take antibiotics all the time.
Friends and family saw the changes and asked, “What are you doing”? We found ourselves explaining the same story over and over. We started joking that we were prophesizing to people, that we were their “paleo prophets” or “paleo priests”. We started helping others try out a paleo lifetstyle so they too could experience the benefits like we have.
We struggle. We succeed. We try things and see what happens. This blog is about our journey of trying to get heathly as a family, in a practical way. Thanks for coming along with us!

July 2013 – That’s me, Jennifer on the right, at one of the trade shows. This is the most I have ever weighed. I estimate it to be about 305 lbs. We started paleo about 3 weeks after this photo was taken.
Here is Xaver at the same trade show, July 2013:
December 2013 – yes, we are drinking very NOT Paleo Starbuck’s drinks! LOL This is 4 months into doing paleo. That sweatshirt I am wearing finally fits after 2 years.
